Barry was our "man on the ground" at the first round of the KTM Super Duke Battle at Thruxton. All the riders were ready to kick off the season to provide the same elbow to elbow excitement of '07 and they didn't disappoint!
Alastair Fagan held off a late challenge from David Wood to secure victory in the first race of the Focused Events KTM Super Duke Battle Championship at Thruxton.
In an action packed final thee laps, Fagan's lead was diminishing all the time, however the Fast Bikes journalist did enough to claim the win. But it was the battle for third position that provided most of the entertainment. Kelvin Reilly, Alex Gault, Dave Heal and James Edmeades were all in contention with a lap to go, with Gault leading the way. It took a brave move on the approach to Club, and an error from Reilly through the chicane to catapult Edmeades into a podium place.
It was a nervy race for Edmeades who almost spilled it with just a few laps remaining, but the Redline Motorcycles/VSG man wrestled it back and managed to stay upright before surging through to claim the final podium position. "I just closed my eyes and it just straightened up. I hit a wet patch and the more I tried to wrestle with it, the worse it seemed to get!" said Edmeades of his incredible save.
Race winner Alastair Fagan led with authority, only finding himself under threat from David Wood when backmarkers hindered his push for the line. "The win was far from easy. I hit backmarkers late on, looked behind me and David was there, but I'm really happy that I got the win," commented Fagan
